Kindly be informed that SGS will be conducting it 1st Research Clinic on this Saturday, 23rd January 2010 starting from 9.00am to 5.00pm. The clinic will be conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yusop Hashim for PhD(Edu) students and Prof. Siow Heng Loke for PhD(BA) and MSc (Mgmt) students.
Objective of the clinic is to discuss and counsel PhD and MSc students about their progress and problems faced in research activities, from the stage of writing the research proposal to defending (viva voce) the research thesis / dissertation. Students will receive personal coaching in any problems faced in research work.

At the end of this workshop, you shall be able to: (a) explain the meaning of ‘qualitative research’; (b) describe the general characteristics that most qualitative studies have in common; (c) describe briefly some of the steps involve in qualitative research; (d) differentiate at least three ways qualitative research differs from quantitative research; (e) explain how generalising differs in qualitative and qualitative research; and (f) describe how matters of ethics affect qualitative research. The workshop is supported by hands-on activities. Please bring along either an audio or video-recorder.

Requirements: Please bring along your laptop installed with SPSS Statistics.
This workshop aims to introduce the fundamental principles of data analysis in research using the SPSS Statistics software. Students will be able to know and understand multivariate statistics using the SPSS Statistics software. A step-by-step hands-on approch will be undertaken.
Among the topics to be covered in this workshop are: i. Multiple Regression and ii. Factor Analysis. At the end of this workshop, we hope you are able to: (a) understand the mechanics of statistical analysis using multiple regression and factor analysis; and (b) run multiple regression and factor analyses using the SPSS Statistics software and interpret their outputs.

The objective of the colloquium is to assist PhD and MSc students to prepare their research proposals for defense.Hopefully, these preliminary proposals could be expanded and improved which then could be submitted as the final research proposal for vetting. The colloquium will begin with a plenary paper and followed by two parallel sessions of proposal presentations led by four students, two each for the Business Administration, and Education. Please find the details as in attachment.
