Graduate Diploma in Teaching

The Graduate Diploma in Teaching aims to enhance the knowledge, skills and attitudes/values of educators in primary and secondary schools. The Graduate Diploma in Teaching programme is designed for practicing early childhood educators who want to expand their academic knowledge and enhance their professional skills. The programme is approved by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education and accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Normal Entry

Malaysian & International Students:

  • 'A' Levels /STPM/ STAM /Diploma or its equivalent accepted by AeU Senate

Note: International students are required to attain a level of English Language Proficiency equivalent to IELTS of 5.5 or TOEFL score of 550 or passed the AeU Placement Test or other equivalent approved by the Senate of AeU. Those who have their tertiary education in English shall normally be exempted from the requirement

Alternative Entry

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) Entry Requirements:

  • 21 years of age as of 1st January in the year of application
  • Other equivalent qualifications recognised by the Senate of AeU
  • Possess relevant work experience; and
  • Passed an aptitude and APEL assessment

METHOD OF DELIVERY

The ‘blended approach’ used in the delivery of the programme consists of 3 components:

  1. Independent Study,
  2. Online Discussion, and
  3. Face-to-Face Tutorials. 

For a 3 credit course, 90 hours will be allocated for independent study, 20 hours of online discussion and 10 hours of face-to-face discussion.

1. Independent Study

As a distance learner, you will have to do a lot of studying on your own. But not to worry! You will be provided with all the learning materials written in a form that is easy to understand. The writing style of the learning material is friendly and conversational, as though the lecturer is there talking to you.

2. Face-to-Face Tutorials

There will 10-12 hours of tutorials for each subject conducted as follows:

  • 3 sessions per semester held during weekends (Saturday afternoon & whole of Sunday)
  • Tutorials will be conducted as learning centres

3. Online Discussion

Students are encouraged to go online and discuss with classmates and their facilitator. Do not worry if you are not familiar with using the computer. Training will be provided to enable you to use the internet and the learning management system. There are a lot of video clips that will help you understand the concepts and principles you will be learning.
